Boca metro station Urquinaona (1924)
Location: Calle del Bruc Ronda San Pedro corner.
The time has finally caught up with them, of eighties modernist arches adorned the entrances of the first section of the metro Barcelona just survives. Which is in the station Urquinaona at the entrance by the Ronda de San Pedro. Were placed in 1924 during construction of the first line of the then known as Grand Metropolitan Barcelona, \u200b\u200bCatalonia Square Plaza joined Fernando de Lesseps.
In the seventies and eighties most modernist arches and canopies were in very bad state of conservation , which led the City Council to go slowly replacing by other more modern, stronger and easier to maintain.
The few metro mouths came the new millennium ended up going down in history after the entry into force of the new accessibility laws, as many were incompatible with the new entries had to be wider and appropriate passengers with disabilities.
No less important was the decision to unify the image of all the subway stations and their identification by more simple and functional its location and use . This swept away many underground shelters and mouths made in several different decades. Oddly
a situation, in a city that modernism has made one of their most important identity , and more when populated and visited cities such as Paris former Metro entrances addition of useful are a powerful tourist attraction.
The disappearance in 2009 of several modernist elements in the Liceu subway station helped put the debate on the street regarding the treatment they should have the underground heritage and their possible return on public streets.
the moment we have one that survives the test of time, hopefully for many more years.
