José Antonio "Present" at the Cathedral of Barcelona.

" José Antonio Primo de Rivera, Present" (1939-1997)
Santa Lucia Street, next to Cathedral.

On 20 November 1936, during the civil war, José Antonio Primo de Rivera, leader English fascism, was shot in the courtyard of the provincial jail Alicante. His death which some historians could prevent Franco-with which it had a good relationship, "helped the dictator to pave the way to absolute power in the national side and distortion of the English Falange which became little more than a Franco party puppet.

After the war, the figure of José Antonio was idealized and mythologized. Was used as a symbol in the new Spain Franco. His name appeared on every street in the country, were devoted plazas, avenues and streets, also numerous monuments. His portrait next to Franco appeared on all official buildings and schools almost no church in which they do not see your name on the wall next to other civil war dead.

L Barcelona Cathedral was no exception, on the wall overlooking the Santa Lucia street with red letters signed "José Antonio Primo de Rivera - Present with a large cross. In this place every November 20 and for nearly forty years was done by the Barcelona Falangism a wreath that was followed by a Mass in honor of the deceased leader of the disappeared and other party.

After the death of Franco and democracy, as the wall continued until it began to be attacked with paint cans and sprays . in 1997 and to mark the royal wedding between Iñaki Urdangarin and the Infanta Cristina, the cathedral underwent a thorough makeover and the memory was erased Falange.

Today, surrounded by old paint stains can read the traces left by the letters on the wall of the cathedral.
